School Buses

As you may be aware, from 1 January 2026, free public transport for people aged under 18 launched, most students enrolled at Victorian schools can travel for free with a Youth myki card. This includes trams, trains, buses, and coach services.

• This means families will no longer need to claim a public transport ticket reimbursement through the Conveyance Allowance Program. Any applications that have rolled forward should be deleted to clear up the school’s excluded applications list.

Once students turn 18yrs old or for those already 18 when school starts – they will require a valid ticket for travel dependent on the service and will not be able to use the Youth myki. If the 18-year-old student meets the conveyance allowance policy criteria, they will likely qualify for a ticket reimbursement while they finish school.

Youth myki | Free travel for children under 18 – Transport Victoria

Public transport is free for children under 18, saving families up to $755, per child, per year.

This makes it easier for young people to stay connected, whether travelling to school, sport, work or social activities, while helping families save on everyday costs.

The Youth myki is available for purchase for $5 – this is for the cost of the card, you won’t need to pay for anything after this.

Register for a Youth myki by:

• logging into your myki account
• creating a new account. 

Once you register, you’ll get an email to use for valid travel while you wait for your card to arrive. 

To access free travel, buy a Youth myki card and tap on every time you travel.

Youth mykis purchased online will expire on your 18th birthday.

Bellarine Secondary College is also currently served by a number of dedicated bus routes. 

School dedicated Public Bus Routes – McHarrys Buslines
BSC has multiple bus routes running throughout Drysdale, Curlewis, Clifton Springs, Indented Heads, Portarlington, St Leonards, Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff. These Buses are controlled by Public Transport Victoria  (PTV), a Geelong Transit Student Pass is essential for travel on these buses and the College has no say on whether we keep or increase the number of buses on these routes. That is a PTV decision. Having said this, to have these dedicated buses is good service. If you meet specific criteria you may be eligible for Conveyance, to apply for conveyance the application form is below (Bus Conveyance – Application to travel).

School Bus Program Provided Services – Contract – Christian Buslines
BSC has several of these buses that travel around Ocean Grove, Wallington, Barwon Heads and some in Point Lonsdale and Queenscliff. These Services are provided by Christian Buslines and are available for students living near these routes who reside further than 4.8km from the College where BSC is their closest Public Secondary School. Student access to this bus is made via application. The application forms for these services are below (Bus Contract – Permission to travel). Only students who successfully apply are allowed travel on these services.

Bellarine Secondary College coordinates this program as required by Department of Education and Training and Public Transport Victoria. Decisions made on bus services are not a school decision. We will relay all concerns to PTV and DET and continue to work on getting better services for our growing population.
